Austen Girls and Bronte Girls

I believe it was at RWA a couple of years ago when Lucia Macro explained, "There are Bronte girls and there are Austen girls." She confirmed that she was a Bronte girl, and so am I. To be more precise, I am a Wuthering Heights girl. I'd say that's my all-time favorite books. I'm not a big re-reader, unlike a lot of other writers out there, but I've read that book twice. The first time, when I was in college and living in Oxford. The second time was out loud with a group of friends on a train winding its way through the Japanese mountains. We were on our way to spend a few days at a Buddhist monastery. Taking turns reading (and mangling the dialect), we hours and hours of rice paddies and train stations slipped past nearly unnoticed. Now that's good writing.
