Eric Maisel and My Love Rock

Eric Maisel in his book Deep Writing recommends that you adopt a totem to hold in your hand when you want to feel connected to your writing. I went on a long walk through the neighborhood today and found a ragged orange rock with a vein of quartz running through. I imagine that line of crystal to be like the brilliance sandwiched in between all the dross I write. It's a nice visual reminder that the glimmer of brilliance is there.
